Critical First 7 Days
The first week is the most important time for your new concrete. Follow these guidelines carefully to ensure proper curing and maximum strength.
First 24 to 48 Hours
No Traffic
Keep everyone and everything off the concrete. It's setting and vulnerable to damage.
Days 2 to 3
Light Foot Traffic Only
You can walk on it, but avoid heavy objects, furniture, or vehicles.
Day 7
Vehicle Traffic OK
Driveways are ready for cars. Still avoid heavy trucks or equipment for another week.
Days 1 to 7
Keep It Moist
Spray with water 2 to 3 times daily in hot weather. This helps prevent cracking and ensures proper curing.
Sealing Schedule
Sealing protects your concrete from moisture, stains, and freeze/thaw damage. Here's when and how to seal.
FIRST SEAL: 28 DAYS AFTER POUR
Wait at least 28 days for the concrete to fully cure before applying the first coat of sealer. Sealing too early can trap moisture and cause problems.
ONGOING: EVERY 2 TO 3 YEARS
Reapply sealer every 2 to 3 years, or when water no longer beads on the surface. High traffic areas may need more frequent sealing.
PRO TIP
Use a penetrating sealer (not film forming) for driveways and high traffic areas. It protects without creating a slippery surface.
Seasonal Maintenance
Summer
Sweep regularly to prevent dirt buildup
Hose down with water monthly
Remove oil stains immediately with degreaser
Avoid harsh chemicals or power washing too close
Winter
NEVER use de-icing salts the first winter
Use sand or kitty litter for traction instead
Shovel snow promptly to prevent freeze/thaw cycles
Long-Term Care for Decades of Performance
Clean Spills Immediately
Oil, gasoline, and chemicals can stain. Blot spills quickly and clean with appropriate degreaser.
Avoid Sharp Impacts
Don't drop heavy tools or equipment. Impacts can chip edges and create cracks over time.
Control Water Drainage
Keep gutters clean and ensure water flows away from concrete. Standing water accelerates wear.
Watch for Cracks
Small cracks are normal. Seal them promptly to prevent water infiltration and expansion.
Reseal on Schedule
Don't skip resealing every 2 to 3 years. It's the best protection against weathering and stains.
